Trained under the pioneers.
Dr. Jishnu Chandran's clinical journey is rooted in mentorship from some of the most respected names in Ayurveda and modern surgery. He received specialized training in Ksharakarma under Dr. Ravisakar Pervaje, the renowned Ayurvedic surgeon known for reviving and systematizing Ksharakarma techniques in clinical practice. For Ksharasutra therapy, Dr. Jishnu was mentored by Dr. Shreekumar T, regarded as one of Kerala's foremost authorities in Ayurvedic para-surgical management. His exposure to modern surgical principles was enriched by the rare opportunity to assist the late Dr. Ghanashyam Vaidya, a veteran general surgeon at K.H.I., Ghataprabha. During his postgraduate training at MIAMS, Manipal, Dr. Jishnu Chandran was under the tutelage of esteemed faculty including Dr. Rajaneesh V. Giri, then Head of the Department, he was guided academically and clinically by Dr. Navneeth Krishna and Dr. Gururaj Tantri, and supported by Dr. Shyam Prasad and Dr. Rakesh, all of whom played pivotal roles in shaping his clinical and academic foundation in Shalyatantra. Additionally, Dr. Jishnu gained clinical insights in orthopaedics and traumatology under the late Dr. P.K. Mohanlal, the first Director of Medical Education for Ayurveda in Kerala, and a veteran expert in Marma Chikitsa. He played a pivotal role in shaping Dr. Jishnu Chandran’s career path. Deeply inspired and influenced by Dr. Mohanlal’s clinical brilliance and visionary leadership, Dr. Jishnu was motivated to re-route his professional journey fully into Ayurveda. It was during his house surgency period under Dr. Mohanlal’s mentorship that his passion for Ayurveda was truly ignited, especially toward the deeper dimensions of traditional Keralan style of Ayurveda. This blend of traditional Ayurvedic expertise and modern surgical exposure positions him uniquely in the field of evidence-based Ayurvedic surgery and orthopedics (shalyatantra)
He expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. G.S. Raju, his undergraduate teacher, whose insightful advice laid a strong foundation during his formative years. He also acknowledges Dr. Mohankumar for providing enriching clinical experiences during his internship, and Dr. Dileep Vattathundathil, whose sharp clinical acumen offered astonishing insights that continue to influence Dr. Jishnu’s current practice.
Though not a direct disciple, Dr. Jishnu considers several stalwarts as his "Mānasa Gurus", whose teachings he has followed silently through their literary works and lectures. These include Vaidya Bhushanam Raghavan Thirumulpad, Dr. Muraleedhar Sharma, Dr. Vaidya M. Prasad, Dr. Ramankutty Varier, Vaidya Nirmalananda Giri Maharaj, and Dr. Ram Manohar. The philosophical depth and clinical wisdom of these pioneers have profoundly shaped his Ayurvedic understanding and continue to inspire his path as a vaidya.
